uncle luke for mayor/the only living human after a nuclear explosion

yeah, re-read that title again if you haven't already. If you haven't heard that Uncle Luke, of 2 Live Crew fame is running for mayor, he most certainly is and this blog is going to endorse him just like The New Times (where he's a columnist), and New York Magazine. Uncle Luke took on the Supreme Court and won for rappers rights to free speech- uh, that sounds like that type of guy that can get the ball rolling on something he cares about. As mayor he proposed that we tax strippers because they make money under the table and don't pay taxes on it, and seriously, that's not a bad idea right? We've gotta start somewhere, and lets not count on any big wigs in Washington to really understand anything down here, so why not have someone who has a history of taking on those lame politicians AND making awesome rap music?!

Onto the second half of the backslash in the title, the Borscht Film Festival, artist Jillian Mayer, and Rakontur (Billy Corben and Alfred Spellman of Cocaine Cowboys, The U) for a short film about Uncle Luke- well, kind of about Uncle Luke- I'll let them explain:

Freaky Times is a modern Miami adaptation of the 1962 French short film La Jetee.  Freaky Times, directed by Jillian Mayer and Executive Produced by Rakontur’s Evan Rosenfeld, recounts Campbell’s rise to fame as he changes the face of hip-hop and fights for first amendment rights – and later as he ushers Miami into a golden era of peace and prosperity as Mayor. Everything changes when a nuclear meltdown at Turkey Point turns Miami into a radioactive wasteland filled with mutants, and Campbell is the only survivor left unscathed. Luther Campbell stars in this semi-quasi-biographical tale, and much of the soundtrack of Freaky Times will sound familiar if you’re a
 “2 Live Crew” fan.

Uh... count me in, J.Azze has got me really into movies a la Inglorious Bastards that start based in reality and slowly move crazily into the word on fiction/fantasy.

I'll keep you nicers posted about this. In the mean time, look forward to Square Grouper from Rakontur screening in Miami in the near future (more on that later) and some more seriously amazing Miami based filmmaking from the Rakontur crew and HBO oh, and Michael Bay, that's right, re- read that if you have to.
