margiela tones it down for resort

maison Martin Margiela may be known for wacky, off-kilter, sometimes confusing, sometimes a little disturbing design (consider him an Alexander Mc Queen if you aren't familiar with his work, or read what we have to say about his Design District store here), but this year's Premiere resort collection was a toned down, hyper-wearable, beautiful version of his otherwise wacky mind.

Standing before a crumpled white sheet, the Margiela models looked like a dreamy version of a chic, work minded, Miami girl. The 60's and seventies influence that's permeating style and film in our little town isn't lost in this collection of maxi-dresses, John Lennon glasses, and multi-colored fringe. The now-classic look of blazer and skirt is updated for a clean everyday look with worn-in hair and sheer fabrics and a trouser with fringe hitting just below the knee is a new way to wear and to pair.

The Margielaness isn't all gone in this collection, a close look at details reveals a funny little origami folded clutch, unexpected sheer blocking and subtle metallics with leather. The way to emulate a Maison Martin Margiela look is to stop and think "like, wait, how can I make this outfit a little weird... not too weird... just so if someone smart stops and looks... it's a little weird."
