HBO makes MIAMI

http://www.miaminicemag.com/images/easyblog_images/508/2006_cocaine_cowboys_004.jpgI've been dropping hints about this for a little while now, but kept forgetting to devote a post to the biggest news for Miami on screen since.. well, since Cocaine Cowboys?
HBO is making a scripted adaptation of Cocaine Cowboys in the vein of The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, and The Sopranos, says Billy Corben himself. Basically the biggest names you can imagine are tied to the project including, but not limited to, the local Rakontur team, Michael Bay, Jerry Bruckheimer and my guess is that Mark Wahlberg will get his greedy little hands on this too because his name is on everything that HBO touches.
What's so great about this? Well, lets be serious- a lot. But I'm really excited that HBO is the one making it, not only because HBO is the biggest, baddest beast in scripted television but it also means that they don't have to shy away from all the drugs and sex that are intrinsically tied to Miami in the 80's and any HBO show- which makes them a match made in drug running heaven.
Here's something else to be excited about- maybe they'll actually film it in Miami and not pull a Dexter. That means high speed boat chase scenes and film crews all over the city eventually, both of which are always fun to come across.
