the night before Thanksgiving is a coveted party night- everyone is home... and still skinny before the face-stuffing that goes on all day Thursday (and Friday if you're lucky and have leftovers). That Wednesday night is a real party night and everyone is in the spirit of the holidays which means lots of dancing, drinking, and seeing people you haven't seen in a while. Gaudi Castro's Rock and Wobble Before the Gobble Gobble party at Grand Central on Wednesday night features live music, an open Vodka bar (from 10-11) and almost assuredly someone you haven't seen since high school.

miami nice chats with him...

So, first and foremost, tell me about Rock and Wobble Before the Gobble Gobble. What is it and how did you think of the name (sounds like there's a story)? Why the night before Thanksgiving? Why Grand Central? and What's the Take Hope Charity?
The Rock 'N Wobble Before the Gobble Gobble is an annual party which started last year at the Bayside Hut in Key Biscayne. I wanted to offer my friends with something fun and different to do. A change from everyone's usual routine.
I thought of the name randomly, it just sort of came to me. I thought it was funny so i went with it. I mean it was sort of simple, its exactly what we are doing on the night before thanksgiving no matter where we go.

The night before Thanksgiving because everyone comes back into town and is ready to catch up with old friends while cheer-sing and dancing the night away.
I chose to do the party at Grand Central this year because, like I said before I want to offer my friends something different to do. so changing the venue sounded like a good idea. A change in scenery is always fun = )
Take Hope is a charity that that was put together by some very good friends of mine; Cristina M Bustamante, David Farcy, Jason A Odio, Kelly Talamas, and Robert J Bustamante. It raises money to help people and their families with the struggle and fight against cancer. A good time should always celebrate an even better cause! This year alone Cancer took my aunt Irma Cambo and one of my good friends Mikey Alvarez's Mom. two amazing women who are very much missed. I know Mikey's and my family are not alone so I want to go ahead and dedicate night to all of those families who have ever lost a loved one to Cancer. A toast to their lives and the time we were lucky enough to share with them. I love you Tia and much love to the Alvarez family.

From some simple Facebook stalking it looks like you work for the Opium Group and a surfing website- living the life? What do you do with them? Do you have a day job?
stalking me are you? hahaha living the life? well, I am living and very grateful for that alone!  = ). I work with the Opium group Hosting certain nights at certain venues. its not a bad gig. Basically I am paid to have a really good time! lol by the way I am really good at it! Come out with me one of these nights and you can be the judge, if you remember that is. lol don't worry that's why God invented Cameras. = p
Mysurfari.com is a surf travel community focusing on linking surfers to surfers and to boutique hotels which offer surfers a place to stay while on their surf trips. Think of it like a www.whereivebeen.com but focusing on surfers or people interested in surfing. Not only can surfers communicate and share information with each other but it also connects surfers with places to stay which would not usually be able to be found online. At the moment it is being rebuilt and will be a much better and improved product linking directly with your facebook once we relaunch. = )

do i have a day job? well when do you think I plan these amazing parties? lol a specific job, no. I have a few projects i have been working hard on which take up a lot of my time. However, for the most part I am my own boss. One project is an apparel company (BADWATER Apparel)  focusing on the niche market of fishing and spearfishing. My partner, Raul Boesel and I's concept is simply Implying black&white photography directly onto shirts.

Raul has been taking amazing underwater shots for a few years now and some of his images are unreal. we do not just go buy these images we live them. Actually today we did our first set of test printing and things are looking good. I actually will be wearing one of our shirts to the Rock 'N Wobble. = p besides that i have been working on putting together bigger and better events.
There is one huge project a team and I are working on but we will keep that under wraps for now. I think that needs a interview of its own. I can tell you it deals with Music, a lot of Great music! Ikigai, just keep your ears open for that word.

How'd you get started throwing parties?
throwing parties came naturally to me. I always thought it was more fun to do things as a group and have everyone involved. so whatever i planned on doing i would spread the word to my friends and it sort of just grew into what it is today. I guess i am not much of a loner. actually I am never alone. if anything I am with my dog Frank. to me that's not alone. lol

You're a Miami boy, right? Are you partial to any neighborhood in particular (not to start a neighborhood wars or anything)?
yup, born and raised a Miami boy. Grew up in the hood of Coral Gables lol. spent most of my time either running around here jumping every bridge the gables had to offer or making a mess of the key with my keyrat friends.

What would you say is going on in Miami nightlife?
I am proud to say the music scene seems to be trying to come around. this past October was an amazing month for live music in Miami. things look good down the road. I think everything is always better live, wouldnt you agree?

Are you into the live music scene? ArtOfficial is playing at Rock and Wobble (is that what I'm supposed to call it?) and a handful of other great bands. Who else do you think are must-sees right now?
yea we have a really good line up for the Rock' n wobble! I am super excited about it! we have a little bit of everything;
hip-hop(Artofficial), funk(the Big Tasty), indie/hipster/dance (B.L.O.R.R), chill reggae alternative(Cris Cab).

How would you say that Miami is different for tourists and for locals?

Miami tourist v.s. Locals? well we live it they visit..lol i would say the one ting us locals have is our Ocean. Going on the boat takes the crown for me.

If you were a bouncer what would your rules be?
if i was a bouncer what would my rules be? everyone is coming in! lol just do not disrespect anyone, especially the ladies ohh yea, do not show up with a huge group of just dudes! i mean come on..lol

Any thoughts on lines (as in club lines...)?
thought on lines? I hate them and i wont wait in them. if you have to it should only happen once, be cool, polite and smart. always introduce yourself say thank you and smile.on your way out do the same. most people will not do that so the door guy will remember you and you probably wont have to wait next time. = )

Have anything else you want to say?
well i guess this interview is over but i want to go ahead and  thank miaminicepopup.com! Also, everyone of my friends and
family who come out to my events and support me! if it was not for them none of this would be possible! I also want to thank all the local musicians in Miami. From the local DJ's to the bands, keep it up!!! And anyone else who is trying to offer Miami something different!

Hope to see you all This Wed night @ the Rock'N Wobble Before The
Gobble Gobble..lol
much love,
Gaudi Castro = )
