drive in theater like it's 1952

the Swap Shop drive-in movie theater is the most entertaining six bucks you can spend. Not only because the movies they play are the most cheesetastic summer flicks in theaters right now, but the whole shebang is material for a cheesetastic summer flick. The Swap Shop in Ft. Lauderdale is a series of parking lots with boarded concession stands, neon lights, and rowdy teenagers honking their horns during the movie and a man in a golf cart selling pop corn and allegedly beers. You can take in whatever food you want, so you can go picnic style, fast food, or get fancy and take in something really delicious and some wine.

The best part about the whole Swap Shop experience wasn't the gas station munchies feast that we took in with us, it definitely wasn't the movie (Grown Ups... not great), it was when... like a real drive-in theater in the 50's... totally a la "Stranded at the Drive In" Grease... the movie reel burnt. We had to wait like ten minuted before it got up and running again and we were staring at this:

They have a great website:

So, grab some blankets or beach chairs (it's really hard to see from the backseat, but it's breezy and you can just sit outside in the lot) and have a good ol' fashioned time.
